This clip might come to some people as a bit harsh but that's actually the view on homosexuality. People in the middleast specifically in the gulf area have religion involved in their culture so much that some the new cultural changes are basically religion. so when you say that some families in the middleast are willing to accept homosexuality that just sounds unreal. it goes against everything in their beliefs there culture. the issue of homosexuality is clear cut in religion thus its also clear cut in law. where most laws in the middleast have to be approved by religion first. And lets assume that a family accepts that there son is a homosexual. His family or tribe will reject him and his family people will keep on going to his parents and tell them the behavior is un acceptable and it must change. Being a social out cats is the least of it. I know that not a lot of people agree with me but thats the actually view. In the Islamic religion it is considered as one of the biggest sins and I agree with that. It is not why both men and women were created. I have no hatred against homosexuals but I refuse to believe that it is normal. I might have skewed of topic but I believe in what my religion and culture have taught. I might not agree with some cultural things, but homosexuality is forbidden in religion.
What Anas is saying is absolutely true and no Muslim can go against his point. Islam prohibited gayness and considered it as one of major sins, and in the Holy Quran, Allah has mentioned that in mentioning the prophet Lot and the tribe he was sent to. In the Quran it is mentioned that this tribe was punished by death to the whole tribe, and the main reason is the homosexuality this tribe used to have. Also prophet Mohammed mentioned how dirty and wicked this thing is and how god will punish him in the after life. In the video there was someone who said that the sentence of death due to homosexuality have never been performed, this is true and the explanation to this needs to be understood by whom said that it was never performed. First, I want to point out that the sentence is to kill both sides of the sexual performance, no side have been killed before. The explanation is that there are many rules that make this sentence so hard to perform. There are two cases that would make the sentence legible. Number one the performer of any side acknowledges 4 times that he did it, and he has to be grown up and in his proper state of mind. Number two is that four people actually see them doing it in reality, which means no videos, and in the same time, which means all 4 viewers must see the same sexual performance. Also, if the performer repents, Allah would accept his repent, and nothing would happen to him. And if he repented after he acknowledges or after the four persons reported him, his sentence would be under the judge’s consideration. These previous explanation only explain the basic way in looking at the case. This shows how strong punisher god is, and how merciful he is in the same time. I hope this explains how homosexuality is treated in Islam and explain its sentence and why its never done before.
I agree with Anas that religion in our society is the biggest thing that ties us together, and our culture is derived from it. Homosexuality is forbidden in our religion, Crystal clear! BUT!! we can see many homosexual people in our society, and its getting more and more spread out. I am a middle eastern, and I witness this. The fact that I can distinguish homosexual people from their appearance in public is something noticeable recently more than ever before. If, let's say, that a family accepts that there son is a homosexual, and as Anas said that this cant be real since it would make his tribe to reject him and his people. If this was really the case then, you wont see those homosexual spreading out since the pressure from their families, people, and society in general would pressure him to stop. But as long as "punishments" are not implied upon them, and society keeps believing that its just a "phase" and would disappear in future, "homosexuality" would keep spreading and spreading.
I totally agree with what Anas have said there. Yes! I believe back in the gulf countries you can find gay people, yet, they know deep inside that it’s just a phase and it’s over. The world is getting smaller, and most people are modernized now with different, opened mentalities. However, the religion and culture is still there and will never change. In Islam it’s forbidden to marry from the same sex. There are a lot of reasons but there are some that pop on my head when I hear this. First, It’s human nature to get attracted to the other sex. Second, same sex marriage might result in diseases. Third, there might not be a future with same sex marriage in terms of kids. I believe, most Gay people are gay because of hormones or the environment they were raised in or there might be also some personal beliefs that he\she have or some life experiences or disappointment. Same sex marriages are considered a Sin or let’s say one of the biggest Sins. Moreover, it was written in the Quran a story about one of the profits that his people were ‘gays’ or ‘homosexuals’ and he tried to change this idea in their heads but with no use, so God ‘Allah’ had send angels to destroy them. Therefore, in Islam it’s considered a Sin.
Anas is absolutely right when he says Islam is the main thing that really ties our culture together. A lot of people from the west tend to mix the Middle Eastern culture with Islam. I mean Islam has a great influence on our culture but a lot of things we do is based on the culture and not the religion. For example, women can’t drive in Saudi Arabia and that has nothing to do with the religion. For whatever reason, culturally they’ve been doing that for many years. As far the religion and the culture are concerned, being gay is absolutely unacceptable and certainly considered one of the biggest sins you can commit. I believe that gays do exist everywhere. Back home (Middle East), there’s actually a lot more gays than people think. But because It’s such a big sin and it’s so frowned upon by the culture, many gays don’t ‘come out’ or conceal it to avoid being discriminated against, punished or whatever the case maybe. Here in the US, because we have rights and freedom, a lot of LGBT’s come out and are ‘in your face’ about it because they CAN. In addition, because men and women are separated at a young age in many countries back home, we tend to see a lot more cases of homosexuality. Men and women can’t be seen holding hand or even together in the street in some places because they’re afraid of what people may say or think or even DO. The bottom line, gays back home do in fact exist and they exist in big numbers but everything has be done ‘under the table’ because it is indeed one the major sins a man can commit in Islam.
Though Anas was a little harsh in the way he explained haha.. I have to agree with him. Even in my culture if your gay that is not something you would ever tell anyone or you yourself would understand I have to get over this because my family will never allow this in anyway. This is strictly because our religion tells us that it is no permissible and is a big sin, and I agree with it there is a reason why men are here and women. Ya people say that some people are naturally gay, but I’m sorry I disagree I won’t disrespect someone that is gay or anything but I cannot just say that I am fine with it. For me if you’re gay your gay I will respect you for whom you are, but to see a Muslim that’s gay would be weird because I have never came across them. For me if our religion forbids it then someone should not do it. For example if someone in my family ever told there family members they were gay they would try to change them and if it didn’t work they would probably sad to say disown them, because it would not be tolerated by anyone. So all I have to basically say is being gay in Islam is very difficult because it is not permissible and the religion is not open minded, there are strict rules you follow and live your life by and if you don’t it’s your choice at the end of the day and everyone will have to answer for themselves.
I understand completely what Anas was saying. Homosexuality, realistically, can not and would not be accepted in a muslim household. Whether it is in contention to the cultural standards of the household or whatever, thing is it will not be accepted. It is even seen that many who go against the religion of their parents (such as converts, homosexual individuals, or adulters) are ostracized and kicked out of their homes. Look at Christian households. It stands true there also. Islam prohibits homosexual tendencies and sodomy is strictly banned. Thus, with our daily family lives being so interconnected to Islam and our religion’s connection to society and culture, it can be logically seen that families will have problems with those that are homosexually oriented.
The question is not whether it is alright for individuals to be gay or not, in reality islam also teaches that you should not interfere with others lives. You may tell them but that is the extent. No force is allowed. However, since there are definitely gay people it is seen that they are very covert in their dealings and act as if it is a crime. I myself run with the Islamic way that I cannot and should not judge another man’s morals, ethics, or tendencies unless they directly affect me or harm me. I may warn him of the problems he faces but I will leave it at that. The question as to why society is so critical of them is because it is against the norms and pre-established set of rules that society and culture has set forth. I believe the society should not be that directly discriminatory towards anybody; however, the question about homosexuality of Islam is clearly answered with no room for the gray or borderline thoughts.
The idea of being homosexual is out of everyone's mind back home (when I say home I mean Saudi), why, u may ask?? it is just not accepted by the Muslim society, It is as Anas said being gay is considered one of the biggest sins in Islam (if you wondered what are the others? they are murder, Adultry, converting, defamation–which is slandering–that is what occur to my mind right now but I am sure there are other. Back home, I have heard of a lot of people who whom were homosexual and when their families heard about it they always try to marry their son to some girl to make him straight. We think that it is human nature to be straight and isn't it??? and when a person is rumored to be gay, his whole family's reputation fall to the ground and a lot of people wouldn't try to marry that guy's sister, they would think that she did something wrong by being that guy's sister!! which is totally wrong. Males back home do not have ways to express their sexual orientations, and I think this is quite possibly the main reason of them trying to be gay since it is not allowed for men and women to socialize. but unfortunately that it is our society and it is based on reputations and knowing people in high places (Wasta). This topic comes a lot in conversations back home and some think that society will change about this subject, but I do not think that will happen in the near future.
