I studied English as an undergraduate at Rutgers, social work at the Master’s level at Rutgers, and Human Development and Family Studies at the doctoral level at Penn State. I’m not sure what all of that makes me. But the common denominator seems like it’s always been an attempt to understand people and Life, and to articulate what I discover.

Sam Richards
Co-Founder
Sam Richards
Sam is a sociologist currently working at The Pennsylvania State University. He co-directs the World in Conversation Project, as well as teaches the largest race course in the country with 720 students per semester. Sam's iconoclasm landed him in “The Professors: The 101 Most Dangerous Academics in America,” a book by David Horowitz that critiques the dominance of liberal thinking in academia–which is ironic given that Sam is a registered Libertarian.

At WinC, I help get the right people in the right places within our organization. I have worked to create a place where people act on their passions and earn a living. A while back, someone gave me the opportunity to follow my passion here and I believe that such trust inspired me to work my a** off to make IT happen. This is at the heart of our work place and I apply it to OUR effervescent need to move with the changing times.

Born in the Amish capital of Lancaster County and raised on farms and the internet. I have had lifelong passions for technology and people but never really found both in one place until I arrived at the World in Conversation. Today I work with brilliantly talented people committed to exploring their humanity through conversation to make that work both global and innovative. Changing the world one byte at a time!

I was born in Moroleon, Guanajuato, Mexico and was brought to the U.S. illegally by my parents at the age of five (no, I am no longer “illegal”). At WinC, my goal is simply to spread awareness about social issues and allow individuals to critically think and reflect on their lives. I believe that when people come together and truly listen to each others' points of view, no matter how different or similar they are, they will develop a better understanding of each other.

Lets talk about any taboo subject. You pick. When we talk and I truly listen, I have a better understanding of the world. I love to train facilitators to walk in a room full of strangers and talk about taboo subjects with no agenda. You game?

My love for facilitation stems from a collective interest in the arts. Music has carried me through most of my triumphs through the ability to creatively express. Tattooing has done the same. I believe that without self-expression, we are prone to self-destruction. P.S. with me, expect the unusual!
